The Joliet Area Historical Museum is a history museum located in the heart of downtown Joliet. The $9.4 million dollar museum opened in the fall of 2002 and serves a diverse population.

Purpose: The Marketing Intern will assist the Development Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of market research and marketing programs. These programs will target membership, volunteers, corporations and the regional community. The internship experience will be mutually beneficial for both the intern and the Museum. The Marketing Intern will benefit as they gain valuable experience in public relations that will help develop them as a public relations professional. Concluding the internship, the intern will have a portfolio for use in interviewing and experience in developing and implementing marketing programs.

Qualifications: The Marketing Intern must possess the following qualities: excellent writing and oral communication skills, ability to work independent of supervision, must be a self-starter and energetic. The intern must be able to work with diverse personalities and populations.

Internship Requirements:

1. Complete one major project. This project will be chosen from a list of projects complied by the Development Director. The Intern will meet weekly with the Development Director to access progress on the major project.

2. Evaluate the “branding campaign” for name recognition and other benchmarks.

3. Provide current market research for grants and assist in demographic research to evaluate advertising programs.

Design brochures and fliers to promote the Museum, its programs and events.

4. Assist in development fund annual report, annual fund materials and other marketing materials that promote the Museum.

5. Work with volunteer committees to promote special events and fund raising programs.

6. Gain experience in the other areas of the museum to understand how the parts of the museum work as a whole to fulfill the Museum’s mission.

7. Complete other duties as assigned.

Supervision: The Development Director will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Marketing intern. Supervisory meetings will be held weekly.
