Fulfill badge requirements by attending our workshop-style programs. Typically, programs are scheduled for school holidays/breaks and weekends.
A minimum of eight scouts is required for each workshop to avoid the program’s cancellation and a maximum of 30 scouts is accepted to ensure a quality experience. Register early to save a spot for your den by calling (815) 723-5201, ext. 235.

Scout Program Guide Summer 2013
The following programs can be scheduled for individual dens, based on staff availability. Programs are typically scheduled for weekends or school holidays/days off. A minimum of 8 scouts (or scouts and siblings) is required for each of these programs. A museum patch is available for $2.00. Choose from two designs!

Boy Scout Heritage
In this program, a precursor to the Boy Scout Merit Badge, Scouting Heritage, scouts engage in a variety of ac-tivities to learn the history of Boy Scouting in America. Includes a brief tour of the Museum galleries. Allow 1.5 hours for this program which costs $6 per scout. Fulfills historic site visit requirements.
Mars!
In this program, scouts engage in at least two age-appropriate experiments to learn more about the “red planet” and what it will take to get there. Scouts also tour the Museum’s Houbolt Gallery to learn about the role the Joliet native played in the 1969 moon landing. Let the Education Director know if there are food allergies. Allow 2 hours for this program which costs $8 per scout. Fulfills historic site visit requirements.

Prairie Pioneer
Scouts tour the Museum and then engage in hands-on activities in this station-based program to learn what it was like to live in the Joliet area nearly 200 years ago. Allow 1.5 hours for this program which costs $6 per scout. Fulfills historic site visit requirement.
Fulfill Elective 48, Go For a Ride, by taking the bus or the Metra train to the Museum. There is a bus stop right out-side of the Museum at the corner of Cass and Ottawa Streets. The Metra station is a four block walk from the Mu-seum. Consult the appropriate transportation organization for schedules!

American Indian Lore
Scouts engage in a variety of Native American activities to earn Elective 10, American Indian Lore. Allow 2.5 hours for this program which costs $10 per scout. Bring a snack if you think that your scouts will need a brief break.

American Indian Life
Scouts engage in a variety of Native American activities to earn Elective 24, American Indian Life. Allow 2 hours for this program which costs $8 per scout.
The Joliet Loop: Architecture and Monument Walk through downtown Joliet
Scouts learn about the history of Joliet through the study of architecture and monuments. This program is only available April 1-October 31 as it is an outdoor walking tour. Allow 2 hours for this program which costs $8 per scout. Parents must sign a waiver for their scout to participate in this program. Fulfills Requirement 3d of Achievement 3 and Requirement 8e of Achievement 8.

Boy Scout Merit Badges
Architecture Merit Badge Workshop
Monday, June 10 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Scouts will work with a merit badge counselor and an architect to fulfill the requirements of the Architecture Merit Badge. The class is split into a morning and afternoon session, both of which are required. The morning session, 9:30-noon, is at the Joliet Area Historical Museum and will include an architecture walk of the downtown area and processing homework (DRESS FOR THE WEATHER). The afternoon session, 1:00-4:00 p.m., is at the Joliet Junior College Technology Building, Building T. The afternoon session will include a tour of the campus.
Additional Details:
- Scouts are responsible for lunch on their own and transportation to the Joliet Junior College Campus located at 1215 Houbolt Road.
- Parents are required to sign a waiver for scout participation in this program.
- Scouts must wear pants, preferably jeans, and closed toe shoes for the tour.
- Because of limited space in the JJC technology lab, the workshop is limited to 30 scouts.
- Remember to bring a blue card!
Class Schedule:
9:30-Noon: Joliet Area Historical Museum
Noon-12:30/12:45: Lunch on your own (if you’d like, you may bring your own lunch and eat on the museum’s roof-top terrace or in the café area in the Route 66 Visitor’s Center) **Please note, it takes about 30 minutes in traffic to drive from the museum to JJC.
1:00-4:00: Joliet Junior College, Technology Building, Building T
Directions to JJC from the Museum:
Take Cass Street across the bridge. Turn left onto Center Street and right onto Jefferson Street. Follow Jefferson Street all the way to Houbolt Road and turn left on Houbolt Road. Follow to the JJC Main Entrance, turn right. At the end of the entrance lane, turn left~the technology building is the smaller building to the right of the new large main building. It is marked with a T for technology. Go into the main entrance and I’ll be there (after 12:45) to guide you to the appropriate classroom.

How to Register?
Advance registration and payment is due by Friday, May 31 and can be made by calling 815-723-5201, ext. 235. Please be prepared to give the name of each scout that you are registering, their grade, and troop number. The cost of this program is $20 per scout. No refunds can be issued after the registration deadline. Once a scout is registered, homework requirements will be sent via e-mail.
