Volunteer Job Descriptions

Museum Gift Shop and Admissions Assistant
The Museum Gift Shop and Admissions Assistant will perform several tasks related to both the gift shop and admissions desk. The assistant will help patrons with purchases, stock and maintain shelves, assist in inventory maintenance, and complete paperwork related to gift shop sales. The assistant will also greet patrons, sell tickets to the Museum, answer questions and direct patrons into the Museum, and assist in the maintenance of attendance records. Must enjoy working with the public, have good communication and math skills, be comfortable working a computer, and be able to work without direct supervision.

Gallery Guide
The Gallery Guide will be stationed in the gallery and will facilitate movement of patrons from one gallery to the next and answer basic questions about the Museum and the exhibits. The Gallery Guide will also serve as a liaison between patrons and Museum staff. Must enjoy working with the public, have good communication skills, and be able to stand for long periods of time.

Docent
The docent will conduct tours of the Museum for a wide range of patrons. Must enjoy working with the public, have good communication skills, and be able to stand for longer periods of time.

Education Program Assistant
The Education Program Assistant will present education programs to a wide variety of groups ranging from school to community groups as well as families and adults. The Education Program Assistant will also assist with special-event education programs as well. Must enjoy working with students of all ages, have good communication skills, and be able to stand for longer periods of time.

 

 

First-Person Interpreters
The First-Person Interpreters will develop a first-person interpretation to be presented in the galleries for school and tour groups and other times as available. Will research character to be portrayed, write script and create costumes to accompany dramatic interpretation. Must be creative, energetic, and enjoy giving dramatic interpretations.

Office/Staff Support Assistant
The Office/Staff Support Assistant will help the staff with special projects such as mailings and data entry. The Office/Staff Support Assistant will also provide general administrative support such as making photocopies, typing, filing, and other duties as assigned.

Special Projects Assistant
The Special Projects Assistant will assist the Museum staff with one-time projects or events related to educational programming and fundraising (Black Tie Gala). The Special Projects Assistant will also assist with Museum booths at various community events.
