Internships Education

We offer four different types of internships here at the Museum:
Education | Marketing and Public Relations | Collections | Administrative

 

The Education department provides unpaid internship opportunities for students in a variety of majors.  Please read the following job description for Education interns.  For additional information, please contact Candice Quinerly - Education Director at 815-723-5201, ext. 235.
 

Description

The Education Intern will assist the Educator in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality education programs for both the school and community audience. The internship experience will be mutually beneficial for both the Intern and the Museum. The Education Intern will benefit as they will gain valuable experience in a Museum setting that will help to further their career goals.

Qualifications: The Education Intern must possess the following qualities: excellent writing and oral communication skills, ability to work independent of supervision, must be a self-starter and energetic, and must work well with the diverse population that the Museum serves.

Possible Experiences as an Education Intern: research, program design, implementing programs for children or adults, giving tours, assisting at special events, writing materials, designing publicity materials, and attending meetings.

Responsibilities

- Give tours and assist with the presentation of education programs for both schools and the general public.
- Assist with the development of education programs for both schools and the general public.
- Gain experience in other areas of the Museum to understand how the parts of the Museum work as a whole to fulfill the Museum’s mission.
- Work on research projects.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must be a current college student or have recently graduated (within the past two years)
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
Must exhibit a desire to work with the public
Must submit to and pass a background check
Must have an education, history, or hospitality/tourism management major or background

 

Supervision:
The Educator will be responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the Education intern.  Supervisory meetings will be held weekly.
